Beadwork
In my spare time I like to make beaded
jewelry and other beaded items. I have been making and selling my
beadwork since around 1989, but I learned how to do loom beading when I
was in Girl Scouts when I was around 9 years old. Here is a small
sample of some of the work I have done recently. Most of
these pieces are my own designs but may be based on something I have
seen in a book or a store somplace. I am mostly a self-taught
beader, learning by trial and error. I can often look at
something in a store and then come home and create something
similar. None of the pieces I have done are identical, I always
try to do something slightly different with each piece to make it
original, even if it just involves a few different colored beads.
None of the beads in any of these projects
are plastic. All beads are either glass, Austrian crystal, metal,
or natural stone. There may be some beads made of clay but no
plastic. Unfortunately this means that the more beads in the
item, the heavier the item is going to be. Some of the larger
collars can weight as much a couple of pounds, wearing them for any
length of time have been known to give people stiff necks!
