Carmen Purr-randa

"Most Humorous", Master Division



Grey fur jumpsuit, with attached feet and hands.  Ultra suede pads on paws.  Mask made from plastic and styrofoam covered with fur.  Headpiece of artificial fruit, cat toy mice and jingle balls, and feathers in a fabric-covered basket.  It was a very hot costume.  Literally.

1920's Hall Costume

Tube dress of white-on-white patterned taffeta with rows of four-inch white fringe.  At the top of each row of fringe was a hand-stitched ribbon of white, irridescent sequins.  Sequined head-band and purple feather boa.

Skirt and vest made of gold and black plaid taffeta lamé with black fringe.  Underneath was a black spandex body suit and tights.  All tubes are clear plastic tubing spray-painted pink.  Abdominal panel was made from a piece of a plastic toboggan with various electrical components and styrofoam, also painted pink, glued to it.  Arm prosthesis made from a cardboard tube, foam rubber, and Erector Set® pieces.  Arm has flip-up lipstick and mirror, and comes with a Trilithium Visa ready for action.  Facial panel is pink craft-foam with sequins and more electronics.

Modified Elizabethan-style gown made from gold and purple crepe-back satin lined with purple celestial-patterned cotton.  Underblouse made from the same celestial cotton.

Made from 7 yards of white muslin, 18 yards of white chiffon, and 125 yards of white lace.  Hoop skirts made from unbleached muslin using steel boning for hoops, passing through pockets stitched on the inside of the skirt.  Pantaloons also made from white muslin and more lace. 
 


Masquerade Judge

Lavender gingham prairie-style dress with white lace collar.  Straw bonnet has satin ribbons and artificial flowers.  The parasol is made from a wooden dowel, gingham fabric, and satin ribbons (it's not a real parasol - it's stuffed with batting).

"Most Entertaining", Novice Division



My first competitive costume, a simple clown suit, white wig, and mismatched socks.  Printed cotton fabric, yarn pom-poms, felt hat with various Italian festival buttons on it.  (I don't know how to juggle the pins I'm holding.)
