This is the location where the
levee breached and sent 14 feet of water into the Ninth Ward.
The wall is the levee, they rebuilt it taller than it was originally.
Many of the wood frame homes in the Lower Ninth were just lifted off
their
foundations and swept away with the water. Some homes, mostly
those made of brick, survived but with significant damage from debris
and water. This was a compact neighborhood at one time. The
vacant lots of overgrown grass and weeds are places where homes once
stood.
